Oh, geez. I hate it when Syd and Latte get squabbling. Syd is a 40" oversized mini, and Latte is a 15 hh QH. For their safety, the minis have separate living quarters from the "bigs," but they share a fence line. Latte and Syd are the "boss mares" on their respective sides of the fence, and now and then there are boundary disputes. A few months ago, one escalated to a kick fight, which demolished a section of fence. Thank the Lord I was able to deal with it quickly - one kick from a horse Latte's size and I could be dealing with a dead mini.

Some of the worst damage I have seen is from 'Boss Mares' doing the I will Bite the H3ll out of you charge with ears pinned tight & teeth bared and then sliding into something man-made.

Quote: Over at the barn where I used to work, we had more trouble with studly geldings fighting over mares - we even lost a 5-year-old pony that way (both horses belonged to the owner, at least it wasn't a boarder's horse). A couple of years ago, I had to choose between getting between a couple of boys intent on teaching each other a lesson, or dealing with the aftermath (probably calling their owners and maybe a vet). I chose the former - not my idea of fun at all - and of course, fixing the fence once the combatants were safely separated. Latte is nowhere near as scary as that 17 hh Warmblood.
