BYC Café

There are other unpleasant side effects and this stuff is injected and lasts 6 months so once its in there, you can't do anything about it.
Exacty!
Those 6 month meds always make me SMH.
Then they list all the side effects.

My Mom took some kind of drug for osteoporosis, don't think it was a long range one tho, had some side effects that made her stop it. Can't remember the details.

Hey, Cafe', brewed an afternoon pot. Small class today (9) won it with a dog that I call War Cry - his sixth win he needs 14 more points for his championship. As good as my friends dog looked on Monday - that's how bad he looked today. They're only dogs.
I remember War doing well last year.
Even dogs have bad days.

Good morning Cafe. Thanks for the coffee, Sour. Good luck at the trial.

DHs hormone therapy for his prostate cancer drops his testosterone to near zero so the Dr. wants to monitor his bone density to make sure he doesn't develop osteoporosis.
He had an base line bone scan Monday. I got a call from the Urology office yesterday. He already has osteoporosis in his right hip (which he's been complaining about for years and an x-ray showed nothing) and osteopenia in his lumbar spine and left hip. Just one more thing to pile on him.
I started him on Ca with D when he got his first injection. He needs to walk more. The Dr. wants to start him on a drug that takes the Ca out of the blood and puts it in the bones. It's called Prolia. One of the rare side effects is osteonecrosis of the jaw. There are other unpleasant side effects and this stuff is injected and lasts 6 months so once its in there, you can't do anything about it.
After a lot of research this morning, I've decided to take a more natural approach and I've ordered various high quality (and expensive) Ca + D + K2, Mg & Sr supplements. I even got some for myself. He's going to go on more walks with me and at a more brisk pace and I'll work with him on some weight bearing exercises to help increase bone density.
I'm sure I'll piss off the doctor when I tell him "thanks, but no thanks" for the Prolia but tough. I'll want DH to have another bone scan at 6 months to see if what I'm doing has improved the bone density or at least slows the loss.
There are special trampolin exercises to fight osteoporosis, maybe this could be something fun he likes. He would not even have to jump, just swinging on it is said to help already.

Lots of warriors you have!
Their daddy is War Eagle.

We are heading to a wedding tomorrow - am I excited? No ! Apparently neither is Maggie. The Princess had clothes out on the bed ready for packing. While she read the paper, and I visited BYC, Maggie took clothes from the bed and scattered them around the house. :lau The Princess is not laughing.

War (B)Eagle, alright. Now I get it.

Hopefully you will be able to enjoy yourselves at the wedding despite your reservations.

Bring Maggie along, she will make sure you all have fun! :p

Did you have a bad experience?
I *think* @microchick made mention of Prolia recently. She's quite against it as well, maybe she can chime in and tell why.

The Princess is not laughing.
No but we are! Hopefully Maggie didn't do any damage to the clothes.

My SIL told the Princess, "I'm glad people will not have to mask." Surprise, surprise - we are masking.
:th
Yeah, let's just see if we can't help Delta spread around even more. Some people just don't get it.
