Silkies have soft feathers. Do they go bald with breeding?
Is a Silkie really a chicken?
Maybe it's a chicken hybrid. Maybe it's a shitzu chicken hybrid.
I wouldn't be able to compare their softness to the softness of my Barnevelders. I've never touched a Silkie.
My chickens have actual chicken feathers. What are they called when it's on a Silkie?

Too funny!

They are still feathers but different.

I think silkies should be kept only in coops made out of Barbie play houses

When I first saw one online, I thought it was a toy chicken. Then, it was more like, oh! they really are chickens, just... fluffier.

I don't see myself ever getting any; they just aren't what I want in my flock. Same with feathered feet. They always look nice on someone else's birds. I think mine would have shavings and dirt in them and look... bedraggled.

Like long flowing dresses or sleeves. Yeah, they look nice on the runway and in the magazine pictures. IMO, they are totally impractical in reality.

I guess I'll find out when the pullets reach breeding age and I'll let everyone know. Maybe after their final juvenile molt they won't be so stinkin' soft. (bunny rabbits...)
They will likely be very different when they have their adult feathers. Some breeds go through several molts too.

What breed are they again?

We had another beautiful autumn day and I was able to clean out the third coop and prepare for upcoming winter
I need to get my tarps up. If it's not raining too much tomorrow I'll do it then.
I also need to get the front landscaping mulched.
