BYC Café

When Astrid brought her first brood up, Olivia and Amelia had to scooch down a bit to make room for them.
Nuit claimed the south roost for herself and the littles, no other hen was on it while she was sticking with them. When she kicked them to the curb she moved to the north side roost and the kids stuck with the south side ... until other hens decided they wanted back over there.

That is when Elizabeth (Gold laced Wyandotte) decided she would go to the north side and for whatever reason the girls there let her. The rest started roosting on top of the people door and the alpaca stand. I suspect they were chased off when they tried to get on the north side. I have been moving them inside nightly. Lately I've been closing the people door enough that they can't get on it and they have been making their way in and finding space to sleep.

Good Afternoon Cafe! Thanks for the coffee!

I am watching the rain pour down outside. There was a small fire in my building at the university so we are all relegated to working from home until we get the okay to move back in - they're waiting for the air quality to improve. No structural damage - just a piece of equipment burned.

One of my fellow graduate students is defending her doctoral thesis this afternoon, so I will be sipping coffee and learning more about her amazing work!

Sounds like everyone needs some high octane coffee this morning. I brewed a stronger pot.

Snow flurries had the youngsters wondering if the world was coming to an end. I gave them some raisins and they forgot all about it.

Another chicken blew up last night. Wow, did she make a mess. I think it's Astrid. With the amount of feathers on the boards, one would think it would be very obvious which one started her molt. I think it's Astrid because I haven't seen an egg from her in over a week and the pile of feathers was under her area of the roosts.

Cayuga has lost nest box privileges. She dooped in the box last night. Mallory can stay. She held it.

This is another auction barn find that we brought home yesterday. I added some more red berry and white berry picks to it to fill it in.
It's spot is going to be on the front porch but the porch isn't fully cleared off yet. I plugged it in because it makes me happy to look at it.
We haven't decorated for the holidays in 9 years.
