I woke up to a zipped chicken and got to watch him come out of his shell. I have 3 more in there. 1 of them has pipped. It's time to get the brooder set up.

I bought a broader heat plate, do I still need a light???

The other egg just hatched, that's 2 out of 4. He didn't do anything for 24 hours but when he came out he came out fast

No, you do not need a heat lamp with a brooder plate and they don't need to see with a light. The natural light is okay unless they are in a closet or something.

I am in northern Arkansas 18 miles from the Missouri border. We are neighbors.

I think the reason I love chicken so much is because we had them as a child. It was my job to feed and water them. Often stayed and played with them for hours. That was back before the internet.
