Good afternoon! I have been planting some cold hardies in the garden. This year I am trying some black barley. Grains seem to do okay up here.

I am trying to resist pushing the pond. But the pH was somewhere between 8.5 and 9 and that's way too high. So I did two additions of white vinegar and now it looks to be somewhere between 7.5 and 8. I need to bring a sample to work and use the pH meter and get a real result. But it's probably okay to add some fish. I actually need them to help get the nitrogen cycle going. The ammonia and nitrite were zero.

IIRC you can add plain ammonia to jump start the cycle.

I'm going to add a small amount of salt to the pond today too. I'll keep the salinity below 0.1% so I don't hurt the plants but it will help the new fish cope.
