BYC Café

For some reason, I have an intense dislike of ground hogs, aka, wood chucks. I think it stems from them eating most of my melons in past years. Or, I should say, half eating most of my melons, and then scratching a bunch of dirt into the open cavity, rendering the rest of the melon unsalvageable! GRRRR!
Same here. I don't really have a garden anymore but they are destructive as all get out.
They dig huge holes with the resultant piles of dirt, can destroy building foundations.
Last year I watched one pull down 6 foot high, with ~2" stems, sunchokes and devour them. It would grab it up as high as it could(~18") bend it over and eat all the leaves. SMH.
I shot 4-5 of them last year, now my rifle is dangerously filthy and I'm not sure I can safely disassemble and more so reassemble to clean.

I went to a new place for flowers this year based on the recommendation of the worker at the nursery I went to yesterday for more plants to install around the pond.
It was a nice little mom & pop garden place with a good variety of high quality plants at a reasonable price. They let me walk around with Piper too. Lots of them don't let dogs come in.
They had a large koi pond down back and I could see goldfish in it from where I stood. I just casually asked if they ever sold fish and the man chuckled and I said I was serious. That I just started up an ornamental pond and am cycling the filter now and it will be a few more days and it will be ready for fish. He is going to let me catch what I can to start stocking the pond this weekend! Free! Cool beans!!
