BYC Café

Good morning Cafe!

A freshly brewed pot sits on the counter, help yourselves to it and enjoy the day! :caf

One of my mother hens laid her second egg yesterday and I expect her to leave her chicks any day now. This is rather early at 4 weeks + 3 days, but I think the extremely hot weather has much to do with her early weaning.
Her chicks will probably just join the other mother hen (her sister) as they already often do during the day, and she accepted them as hers.
The only time they stay with their "birth mothers" is at night.

Good morning Cafe and thanks for the coffee LF.

I am hoping that Jody's chick will join Astrid's chicks when Jody is done with her/him. Which would be pretty neat as Jody's chick is Astrid's biological chick.

Astrid's horrible hatch rate is showing me that if I want to hatch out of my flock I need another rooster. Remi is the problem with that. That poor hen is relentlessly pursued by the boys, has a bum leg and is blind in one eye and it is pure hell for her when the cockerels come into lay.

Could you separate Fabio and her together with maybe one other Oldie to spend their old age in peace while leaving the younger ones with a new but well socialised cockerel?

This is hilarious :lau
