BYC Café

Another inch of wettish snow overnight, cleared from path and run...and the 2-3" of frozen slush removed from the rest of 'run path'.
Need to clear the doorway of 'wood shed' yet today in case the nasty 10-14" storm tomorrow knocks the power out.
I used to love winter, now it feels like a personal threat.
After living in upstate NY and Nova Scotia, I have had enough snow.

The gas tank on the genny is full. The 5 gallon gas can is full. An additional bale of shavings in the coop.

Our lunch out was cancelled, but there will be more Fridays.

We're as ready was we'll ever be. I'm expecting our road, and/or the next road to drift shut and the power to go out.

I warned the new neighbor that we will probably be snowed in, unless the county is really on top of things. They already know what a 5-day power outage is like. They have a Generac backup, and I think they said they burned about $60-80/day in propane in August when the power was off then.

60 to 80 dollars a day. Sounds like it needs a new carburetor kit.

🤷‍♀️ That was his first guess. Maybe it was less...? I sure hope they don't burn that much. We've thought about getting one, but not for the price and surely not if it'll take that much propane.

The electric company did rebate us $35 on a subsequent bill. That's about what we spent in gas for our generator.

I am as prepared as I can be for the storm...trying to keep the anxiety at a reasonable level.
Losing power would really stink, I have an old fireplace insert in the lower level and enough wood to not keep me 'warm' but should keep the hot water heating system from freezing for a couple few days. Then I can worry about finding someone to clear the driveway by midweek.

Good Evening, Cafe’!

DH and I are in IA tonight, getting ready to hunker down for a blizzard. We’re taking care of our two grandsons (ages 3 and 1) for the next few days. We weren’t going to come until tomorrow, but the forecast kept getting worse and worse so we came a day early to beat the weather. The parents found someone to stay with the boys until we got here and they got out of Dodge as soon as they could to also beat the weather. (We’re under a winter storm warning until 10:00 am tomorrow, then it turns into a blizzard warning.) Roads were good all the way, and snow didn’t start until we were almost here, and it was just light snow at that. It’s a little over 3 1/2 hour drive to get here.

Enjoy your time with the younguns

I didn't realize the anxiety level I was at when the trees fell on the power lines and knocked us out for 3 days. When the power came back on and the relief gushed in was when I realized how tense I had been.
I'm going to take this opportunity to once again say how very much I love my solar panels and big fat Tesla power pack!
