BYC Café

Good Morning, Cafe’,
-12 here, with a predicted high of 7 today. Sounds like we’ll see a warmup starting tomorrow that will give us highs in the 20’s and 30’s for a while.

I’m hoping that the mink that was prowling around has given up and gone away. On Tuesday of last week, one got in the coop where DH had left the walk-in door open and killed one chicken that it had chased out in the run. There were also feathers outside of the coop in the driveway, so I went out to inspect. I found a hen with a big gaping wound on the back of her neck, huddled in a corner, another hen with a bald spot on her back where a bunch of feathers had been pulled out (those were the feathers in the driveway), and Big Red the rooster with a few feathers missing. I set a live trap, but didn’t catch anything. (DH said the trap I set is the one that doesn’t work.) Didn’t have time to set the other one, as we ended up leaving a day earlier than planned to go to IA. My mom saw tracks in the run of the other coop that Friday, going right to the closed pop door, but nothing got in. No new tracks in the fresh snow, but I’m still a bit leery of opening pop doors when it warms up. I think I’ll go set the other trap today after it warms up a bit, just in case it’s still lurking around somewhere.

@LTAY1946 - take care of yourself, and I hope you start feeling better soon!

@Mtn Margie - I’m sorry to hear of your friend’s news. Enjoy your time at the museum. It sounds very interesting!

@sourland - be careful out there moving snow!

Now I’m off to do some indoor work!

Have a great day, everyone!

Hello, Café. I hope your Saturday is going well. Tomorrow is set to be a surprisingly warm day here - perhaps spring is around the corner?
It’s supposed to be like 40s here next week. A welcome change from 17° lol all Fahrenheit. I’m sure you see way colder though.
