I would not have waited to send any bird on their way to the afterlife, after that happened. I send them on their way if they attack me, let alone a little one.
I do hope that Miss thing2 does not end up scared of chickens after this.
Hope she heals up and all is well soonest possible.
I have had Jersey Giants that were very laid back and mellow, other breeds might also have good Roo's as a rule I don't know.
Good luck with the hunt for a Roo.

She isnt scared at all. The older girl is, but she is fierce. She is in complete agreement started filling her bucket with hot water. I told her yhe water needed to be a bit warmer then that. I will show her the dead rooster and that should satisfy her.

I tend to stay away from the posters that only talk about their experience with one rooster, and one breed.......I'm sure there are allot of folks that can head you in the right direction.

I know what you mean Berts, I have had so many 1st or 2ND year chicken people tell about how good all of their Roo's have been, only to find out that they have only had 1 or 2 Roo's so far.
I don't remember how many breeds we have tried let alone the many Roo's that made good dumplings, or plain smoked is good also (sorry I'm still hungry I guess).
Most all breeds can have good or bad Roo's.
Talk to alot of people to see what they have had, and hope you get a good one.

Morning everyone, glad you enjoyed the fresh bread and roasted coffee. I have a new favorite, it's called Badak Rhino from the Sumatra region. Mmmm.

OFW, I'm so sorry for poor little Thing 2! That's some nasty scratches! I have ZERO years of rooster experience but I have done research. The Bielefelders are supposed to be the gentle of gentlest Roos. I'm getting one in April and sure hope it pans out!

Thank you, i think she will be ok. We are keeping an eye on it to make certain they do not become infected, but she should heal fine.
