BYC Café

After my lovely day off I now have to head out to be a housekeeper.

We've had a wonderful housekeeper here for 6 years and yesterday was her last day. I've known it's been coming for a month so it's my own fault that I don't have another housekeeper hired.

I just HATE hiring! Even more than I hate firing!! But if you get the hiring right, you don't have to deal with the firing. Ugh, off to clean a 5 bedroom lodge and a 24 bed dorm...along with the 6 bathrooms!

One of the best things about retiring is that I no longer had to hire. When I could get folks with farm backgrounds, I generally got good workers, but here in NJ they have become a rarity.

We live in an area of major recreation. No one wants to work, they all want to hike, mountain bike, kayak, snow board, ect.! We have found if you can hire someone that has moved here from OUTSIDE the area, not grown up here you can get a worker. Particularly hard workers come from the Dakota's and Idaho...forget Washington, Oregon and California. Of course there are always exceptions to the rule, I'm from California and I'm a very hard worker...but I had parents that weren't slackers. We are raising our kids to work hard too...none of this gaming, movie watching nonsense!

Speaking of hard work..., I am back from town and I decided to get DS$'s B-day presents while I was there and had the truck. Went to a used sports equipment place, found a great deal, and got a Nautilus power tower and a sit-up crunchie bench for a couple hundred bucks. What I realized as I was hauling the pieces of this Nautilus into the house over my snow drifty path, is that you need to be a buff power lifter before you even purchase the darn thing. Good thing for critter feed workouts or it would still be in the store!
Sheez, now to get in touch with my girly side and go decorate some lockers for Districts!!!!
