Something tried to get the chickens last night/early this morning. Feathers everywhere but they're all there and no injuries.

NFC, those storms have been wicked! We have just gotten rain but the CO plains are getting tornados and such. That whole dry line thing is setting up in the Midwest and then Texas. I bet the storm chasers are going to be doing their zooming around.

On our way to CO, DD said there were a lot of antelope on the property when they arrived. Really looking forward to spending time with the kids and grandkids and just relaxing.

By the way, those are the Spanish Peaks in the distance. Very pretty!

Something tried to get the chickens last night/early this morning. Feathers everywhere but they're all there and no injuries.

Well...a bit of a panic....I guess try to lock them up better until whatever it is goes away?

My worry is that it will be back.

Well, they are in a chain link dog kennel run with the coop inside, although they sleep on the roof, no issues though. Well, we've had stuff try but unable.

I think the feathers are just from them all freaking out and flying around the pen, probably hitting everything?

I really think the problem though is I have a broody hen and finally decided to break her last night. Had her in a crate in the corner of the run. First night out there and the dog was not here. I set up extra fencing in the corners so she is secure but the predators don't know that. Sitting out there as bait

I think tonight I will bring her inside

Have a safe and fun trip Friday! Our antelope are starting to deliver their babes now, we have reported sightings of at least 2 tiny ones. With the "maternity ward" apparently in place all over the driving range, we'll have a lot more before the ladies are done, lol.

Morning all! Hope everyone is ready for the cuteness overload. There's pics of my 2 roosters. The first pic is of the Easter egger, 2nd pic is of Roo-Roo. The Easter egger doesn't have a name yet so if I could get help with the name it would be greatly appreciated.

Revenge is sweet. Grandson's baseball team just beat the team that beat them in the semi finals of the last tournament. It was a good game - score was 4 to 1. two games to be played tomorrow.

Way to go, team! Hope they have the same succes today.

Those folks can be more dangerous than the storms themselves -- I think it's become the "thing" to do for some folks that aren't really as knowledgeable as they think they are, or should be........

X 2 - most predators will return, even if not successful on the first attempt....and once they do get a meal they are definitely going to put your place on their route.

Sounds like a good idea to better secure the broody buster. I know chain link is strong, but the opening size really doesn't afford much protection against many predators, especially with birds that are not sleeping inside a secure coop.....generally with a run that isn't completely secure it's the coop that is depended on to provide that extra layer of safety during the roosting hours when they are most vulnerable. Does your dog usually sleep outside to alert to/intervene with anything that tries to approach the enclosure?

Morning Café! Hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend. Our weather is suddenly turning beautiful with highs climbing into the 70's through the next few days.

The storm damage is under control. DH has to rent a bucket lift thingy to clean up some of the big limbs that got hung up in the tree tops but things are looking much better now. We actually have golfers on the course this morning!
