Oh and for certain countries like ours, the quarantine is shorter but for places with lots of strays and not as many vaccines etc. Like india, africa, etc. They still have strict rules and a 3 month quarantine but not longer 6 ,

Breakfast for dinner?? Or whatever meal this is considered :gig

Didn't you say this rabbit was supposed to have been a show rabbit? She looks to be "commercial" in size and type, and there are several commercial breeds that have the genetics to produce that color. However, I only know of one commercial-sized breed that is showable in that color, and that's the Cinnamon.
She is small, about the size of the dutch.

That quarantine period was created at a time when there were no rabies vaccines. As to how long it takes for a rabies victim to show symptoms - it depends.

Most viruses and parasites are species-specific, meaning that only one type or related types of animals can get it. Apparently any warm-blooded animal, from mice to whales, can come down with rabies if exposed.

Rabies exposure doesn't depend on a bite. Apparently, the virus concentrates in the saliva of the victim, and just getting the saliva on a scratch or other break in the skin can introduce the virus. The rabies virus travels in the nerves, and the closer to the brain the point of introduction is, the sooner the victim will show symptoms. The amount of virus that gets into the system also affects the speed with which the disease develops. There are cases where the time between a known exposure and the point at which symptoms developed was a year or more. Obviously, those were extreme cases, but with an incubation period that can be as long as that, it is possible for an animal to have an unknown exposure, get vaccinated at a later date, and still develop the disease. But, where do you draw the line between reasonable precautions and paranoia? At the moment, the line is drawn at 3 weeks.:idunno

Even though rabies vaccination for dogs and cats is required in the U.S, cases still occur. Just a couple of days ago, a 6-year-old boy in Florida died of rabies after being scratched by a bat. A few years ago, a number of children at a school had to be vaccinated after someone brought a puppy to school that was later diagnosed with rabies. The reason for the 10 days to 2 week isolation period after a biting incident is that the possibility of transmitting the virus only occurs shortly before symptoms appear. If the animal doesn't show symptoms within that period of time, it probably couldn't transmit rabies, even if it is actually infected.

The "choking" part sounds more like sleep apnea.

Thanks for all the info on rabies!! I didn't realize the time was set before they had vaccines or that it could take so long to show rabies symptoms. I did know we had it here though, hasn't been eradicated yet, and raccoons, foxes, etc. all get it. But I didn't think dogs did. Or at least that bats are flying around biting dogs hah I guess it's possible though before the dog has all it's vaccines? Or maybe people don't vaccinate their dogs?

Good morning Cafe'. Thanks for the coffee.

Now to get a few charts done before I take my dad to his driving lessons.

Have a great day everyone!

. He's 85, DD. He lost both legs last summer and is learning to drive with hand controls through a VA program. Keeps him busy. Just got a call that his lessons are delayed until the training car gets updated registration.

Wow what an awesome program.

Not awesome he lost his legs but cool program

A little girl died this week from rabies. She found a bat in the backyard and was keeping it in a box on the porch. The bat scratched her and her father had her wash her hands. They did not go get the vaccine for her because she was scared of shots. :rant

Now the Dogs, cats and people in the house all need to be vaccinated for Rabies.
