It was a mistake in being precautionary and likely not fully understanding the seriousness of the risk, not some sort of criminal intent or even gross neglect.
A charge could not possibly have any actual purpose in this case.

Hmm, I suppose that's true. But it seems he should have taken her in or that he knew, since he said she didn't like shots?

But I suppose mistakes happen and it's a tragic accident. And sometimes people really might not know and think washing your hands is enough. I mean, how would you know if the bat is rabid or not? Especially if it didnt show signs. So i guess you're probably right that it was a mistake.

But i guess i was just thinking since ron said he didnt go cause she didnt like shots which to me indicates he knew she should get one.

But I suppose he probably feels horrible about it as it is and charging him wouldn't do anything. I guess he needs to grieve.

Thank you, it was!

Wow how sad! :(

Is the father going to be charged?
The article did not say but often in cases like that they go with "The family has been punished enough" I really hope the word gets about this.

Last year I had a bat in the bedroom. I had to take it in to animal control to have it tested to see if it was rabid. Since I was asleep when it was flying around, I would have to have the vaccine if it were rabid. It came back free of rabies so I did not have to go through the shots.

A little girl died this week from rabies. She found a bat in the backyard and was keeping it in a box on the porch. The bat scratched her and her father had her wash her hands. They did not go get the vaccine for her because she was scared of shots. :rant

Now the Dogs, cats and people in the house all need to be vaccinated for Rabies.

They both remind us as weather becomes spring like the bats will be back out watch, be mindful of our surroundings Scared Little Dog.gif

That makes sense. And wow scary!

How sad :(

So are there two cases or is this the one you mean, Ron?

Cause i know you had mentioned a girl but this one sounds really similar with a bat on the porch, scratch, scared of vaccines

I was confusing the gender in the article. The article was about a treatment that they tried that worked on a girl years ago. It has not worked sense but for two cases and those two may not have had rabies.

It is the same case though

Thanks for all the info on rabies!! I didn't realize the time was set before they had vaccines or that it could take so long to show rabies symptoms. I did know we had it here though, hasn't been eradicated yet, and raccoons, foxes, etc. all get it. But I didn't think dogs did. Or at least that bats are flying around biting dogs hah I guess it's possible though before the dog has all it's vaccines? Or maybe people don't vaccinate their dogs?

Wow what an awesome program.
