@drumstick diva, one of the beagles - 'Little E Z'. Just got off the phone with the vet. He is positive for Lyme exposure. We are going to continue with just the steroids until Wednesday and then decide whether or not to initiate treatment with Doxy.

The treatment is usually pretty easy and fast working so I'd say it's worth it, if that's what it is.
