I'm getting a lot of attitude from my almost 3 yr old these days... is this 3 going on 13? With the ability to express himself with so much more complexity has come some strong opinions and defiance! Ah well, every stage has it's time.
He is practicing to be 4. That is when they figure out which side of the line that you draw in the sand is the happy side. Win most of these battles and the teenage years will be easier! Kind of like training a horse, make doing the right thing easy and the wrong thing hard, but they still have to choose and suffer/enjoy the outcome.
