The trees went dormant late last year. And have never started to grow this year
Some branches still are tender but the trees are looking dead.
Looking worse fast. I know dh gets to close with the zero turn and the weed eater. So that's probably what started it.
The crack on the upper part of the tree is the second tree. The other one is larger and it is cracked at the base on both sides. So they probably did freeze since the sap was still flowing when the freeze hit last year. I bought some captain fungicide for my grape vine that is showing black rot. I was wondering if I should try to spray these trees for fungus? Or just pull them and burn them.

Plant some new ones this Fall as Bare Root. Pick a place with good drainage

I have prairie clay soil. It holds the water.
I did put mulch and sand in the soil with pine bark. But it seems only the pear trees survive our clay.
I might try getting one for a pot later.
