Given the amount of time he spent with me while he was a baby, I'm the nearest thing to a relative/hen/whatever he has apart from his tribe. I've obviously been imprinted.
I read a lot of posts on the forums where this is obviously what has happened but the longer term consequences of having a cockerel imprint you as a flock member haven't been understood.
Treacles dad is the tribes senior rooster and reasonably enough isn't impressed with his know nothing son trying to mate with his hens. I'm Treacles best option I suppose.
As long as you don't drive cockerels like this away, hit them with sticks, throw water over them etc and all the other bad advice people get given, they eventually grow out of this stage. Unfortunately many peoples reaction is aggressive and that just produces an aggressive rooster in the end. Rather than say please can I do it with your boot, they try to force the issue and the whole situation becomes self perpetuating.
