Well I’ve been taking care of the family since everyone seems to be down with the flu. My old dog is acting funny. He’s 9 so I figure he’s winding down. Thought I might have to butcher a duck but that solved itself when she decided to get up and start acting normal.

hope everyone starts feeling better! Glad your duck pulled around too. But what kind of symptoms are you seeing with your dog?

I just like to know if possible IM. I sleep easier knowing. We/I/they lose about 60% of the chicks hatched. I don't know how that compares to jungle fowl or semi feral breeds but I doubt it's far off normal. When you've seen mums just walk away from chicks half out of their shells peeping away madly, or watched them carry on when one, or two go missing you tend to look at things differently.
Weasels have to eat as well. It would be good if they didn't eat the chicks but then again it's hard to condemn them when we eat chickens to.

I agree with that, though ive yet to lose any to predators. Though I have lost a few this year for other reasons.

He’s very lethargic and won’t come when called. He sleeps all day. He’s not off food though and that motivates him to move. Just old age I guess.

Try giving him 1 aspirin, if he is more active that day he's painful. Then you know he needs to go to the vet for a pain med 'scrip

He might just be sick or maybe an injury or something rather than just old age. Could be lots of things. 9 is still pretty young. I’d try a vet appointment or maybe the aspirin like was suggested. Could be something really simple. Could possibly be Lyme disease too if you have ticks. Our dog had it once and he was laying at the bottom of the stairs one day totally unable to move, we thought he was gonna die, but we took him to the vet and got him on the meds and he was fine and lived till like 12 or 13. He even got hit by a car once and survived that with minimal injuries, just some abrasions. He was tough old dog and built like a tank haha he survived a lot. This was the dog before Gator. Bailey, a yellow Lab. Thankfully Gator never got Lyme or hit my cars or anything though he did hurt his ACL or a tendon once and of course the MMM.

Hi! Thanks for the nice message and the concern. Sorry to worry everyone! I am okay, not to worry lol just been a busy day. A lot going on. Went to brunch then to my cousin’s (other cousins and aunt and uncle, most of fam there) for a bit then I was home all afternoon but I was playing a game on the phone and hanging instead of BYC LOL then I went on a hike a bit ago with FSIL and the dogs. And some Easter drama in between. So yeah, eventful day LOL

9 is still fairly young for most breeds(except the giant ones). With Cockers, if they don't eat then it's time to run to the vet.

Hi, im one of the newer members of about four or so days. So far ive found this site easy to navigate and very handy. Ive owned chickens for about 3 yr now with my family, and am starting my first year with ducks and ducklings now. My ranily would also pike turkeys, pigs and horses to. Currently we have 9 easter egger hens, 1 easter egger rooster called big red, and 9 black ostrolorps. We used to have one male pekin, and three female pekins, as well as one muscovy male. Now we have three brown khaki campbell female ducks, one male khaki campbell drake, four brown khaki campbell ducklings, 7 pekin ducklins, and ine muscovy pekin duckling.
