KDOG, I thought about it, but most of the rescues are older dogs. Older dogs are fine for many situations, but I think it would be best to get a pup, or very young one, so I can teach it that the chickens belong here, and that it has enough energy to keep up with the grands. Dh was a dog trainer/handler in the military, and later on for the Sheriff's Dept. here in Florida, so he'll want to do a bit of training.
Ah okay that makes sense then!! A lot of rescues are definitely older! And everyone wants the puppies and young ones so what few there are go fast! You might be able to find one though but yeah a puppy is probably the way to go. Plus that way you know where it came from/how it was raised and it’s background and parents personalities and stuff. But wow that’s awesome!! Sounds like you guys will be perfect for one then!! Seems like he definitely would know how to handle them!! Too many people don’t yet get them anyway. Drives me mad! Especially when they then also don’t exercise or train it and wonder why it’s got behavior problems haha
Sorry for all the rants today
Anyway, out of curiosity have you considered any of the Belgian or Dutch breeds? Since he probably has experience with those too? But most of those are probably a bit too much dog? Ha
Yup, that's what tends to happen when humans try to breed other creatures for particular characteristics.
Yeah it’s sad

the breathing problems in most brachy breeds are sad too
Exactly! We had a JRT that was fine as long as people didn't try to pet him. We had him at the store and this lady was going to let her little girl pet him without asking. I said please don't allow her to do that he's not friendly with kids or most people and she read me the riot act about having him out in public. Just because the dog is in public and not obviously aggressive doesn't mean it's ok to pet it without asking first. He would never go after anyone or bark at them, but he didn't like to be touched by strangers.
Frankie would love everyone in the world to stop and say hello and pet him, but because he's a bully people avoid us when we take him to Home Depot.
It's a bit about the dog but it's also about the owner. You have to know how to handle a dog and those small ones can be MORE of a handful than the big ones.
Ugh I hate people like that!! I’ve read a lot of stories about entitled people getting mad when you say they can’t touch your dog lol even non aggressive dogs!! Me personally I loved when people wanted to say hi to Gator and I don’t mind letting people pet my dog but a lot of people don’t like it and/or are anxious with people or whatever or even if they usually let people pet it, are maybe in a hurry or whatever that day, or are training him, etc. but yet people always act so offended!! People even do it to service dogs of all things!! So many stories of people wanting to pet the dog or call to it or whatever and distract it. People are so infuriating!! Lol in Europe, they mostly ignore dogs and they are a lot better behaved!! I think there is a lot of entitlement here lol
I’ve also heard a couple stories of people sneaking up behind the owner’s back to pet the dog without permission or continuing to approach despite the owners warnings and petting it anyway and then they get bit!! Serves them right imo aha but then of course the dog gets blamed and labeled “dangerous” cause idiots can’t keep their hands to themselves.
Of course if the dog is a bite risk, it should probably be muzzled, but then again, if someone warns you the dog is not friendly, or you don’t even ask, then it’s kinda your own fault.
People even get upset about growls though too and act like the dog is vicious. Maybe he’s scared or nervous or something.
Oh and I meant to say before but got distracted lol that even with a perfectly friendly dog or dog that comes up to me first, I always ask first! It’s just common courtesy. I can’t stand people that just feel entitled to pet every single dog they see or have their kids pet it especially without asking!!
I mean, I usually don’t mind, but some people do. But that said though, I will say I have seen some people be really rude about telling people no too so it goes both ways, I personally wouldn’t be rude to someone, would just tell them politely, but I can also understand why they might be a little inpatient if it happens a lot or if being nice doesn’t work ha
Also rare breeds or beautiful dogs seem to get stopped way more. I like that sometimes and like (okay love

) talking about dogs but I imagine that might get old if you’re just trying to go for a nice quiet walk with your dog and get stopped every few minutes lol
Awww poor Frankie!! I would pet him!! People are so ignorant too and just judge every dog before even getting to know it.
Exactly!! The small ones are definitely more of a handful imo! Ha takes a lot of training. Although that said, when the big ones do decide to lunge or pull, it takes a lot more strength to control them! Ha although some of the small dogs are really strong!!
A King Charles is very similar in size and temperament to a cocker as I recall.
Going to read your article...been working on tge second part of mine but I'm afraid it's going to be too long
I think they’re really small, like a toy breed.
Lots of health issues with Cavalier King Charles.
Yeah there definitely are! It’s sad.
IM, your JRT should have had a sizeable, highly visible yellow ribbon on it's collar, leash, etc. The yellow ribbon means it's not friendly. I agree though about people teaching their kids not to pet anyone else's animal without permission from the owner. My kids were only to pet their own dogs, unless I gave them permission. Even if the owner of another dog said it was ok, that did not mean it was ok with me. I spent a lot on keeping all the shots up to date, all the preventatives, and didn't want them petting some dog, and bringing something home to our dogs. For the dogs I did trust them to pet, the rule was that they had to wash their hands immediately afterwards. If that was not possible, they were to go straight in the house, straight to the bathroom, and wash those hands.
The ribbon is a good idea and they also have yellow leashes and collars and green ones too and ones with words that say friendly or not or in training, nervous, etc. but the thing is, at least imo, is sometimes those things might be inconvenient or it’s easy to forget them! People should just learn to ask first. It would solve so many problems!! Ha also another issue I have is loose dogs being allowed to approach leashed dogs!! They’re usually on leash for a reason.
I’ve heard of some people getting muzzles for even friendly dogs to deter people and other dogs lol I’d feel bad about lying personally but it’s effective!
And I never thought about bringing home diseases!
I pet tons of dogs though and never have?? I think if it looks clean and healthy there’s probably a pretty good chance it is up to date too. Unless it’s a stray or something.
Idk.
Check out my photo albums, most of those photos are on my old phone.
Mini's Dad won Best of Opposite sex to the German Shepherd female that won Best in Show at Madison Square Garden! She is a beauty!
Okay thanks! I will!!
And wow that is awesome!!
Careful, you are treading dangerously...

. My first dog was a very friendly chihuahua. Parents said no to anything bigger.
Whoops! Sorry! Didn’t mean to step on any toes
I actually think Chihuahuas are pretty cool little dogs and seem trainable. I used to want one but there’s so many bad ones it’s hard to find the good ones!! But the right ones seem like very trainable, smart, cute dogs. Min pins too. And some of the terrier breeds like Border or Cairn or Westie. And Paps too. And even Bostons. Also Havanese or poodles. Or Bichons. Or Shih Tzu. I want a little dog eventually can you tell?
I want lots of big dogs though too. I think I want every breed.
But I actually like most of the little dogs people think are yappy or annoying or untrainable or whatever ha
I think they just have a bad rap and I have a bad taste from them because of all the bad ones around.
They are quite a bit smaller, actually.
Yeah they’re toys right?
Cap, your GSD is beautiful.
I need to go find the pics and see for myself! I love shepherds.
