Morning Cafe

Meg, congrats on the new chick! Hope the rest of the hatch goes well. That's great you got your garden in!

Shad, thanks for the coffee...it's good as always! Keep us posted today on Bracket, ok?

It's been pouring down rain here this morning. DH has been up & down most the night trying to keep the golf course irrigation pump from frying...it seems to be having trouble with the rising river water.

It's a day off work for me :ya
Yay for being off work!
I am retired, but the work I do here makes me tired anyway. Plus I have to get up early with the pup.

Well, it is 34 and snowing... Gardening? What is that?

Hot coffee anyone...

I'm interested in reading how the co-parenting goes. Keep us posted.:)
Is this unusual? This is my second "controlled" hatch and they've both had two broodies. Seems to work well when they're outside, more protection.

I had a brahma hatch a single chick last year and when they started running around outside another brahma joined in raising and protecting the chick. It's funny how chickens flock to their own breeds.

Now you're my heroine.:hugs
I write about chickens preferring their own breeds quite often. I get verbally stoned.:(
The problem is it goes against the pick and mix attitude many here on BYC have.
So many of the problems I read about are because they've mixed breeds. It's pointless mentioning this because people do not want to hear this.
I've had one joint sit in eight years. Two sisters and it didn't go well.:(

I have two bantam cochin hens sitting together. They hatched out 2 chicks, one got out of the nest and was chilled, so I took it in and warmed it in the bator. I had some bantam cochins that hatched in the bator, so I stuck them all under those girls. So far they are doing well.

Yes, It's not that I'm against it in any way. In fact if I could work out a way of encouraging it I would. Theoretically two mums and a dad would provide better protection.
Got any pictures? Please.;)

They got put in an empty quail cage for quarantine when I bought them, and I am working on making the packing crate coop for them. They laid their eggs up in the quail loft that has a ramp leading up to it. Pretty hard to get pictures, but I will try. Papa gets out daily and struts around crowing. He is loud for a little guy. The roo called the hens out for treats this morning, and they both went, which is unusual. I got a chance to put water in their dish without getting pecked for once!
