This is an illustration of the advantage of having a senior hen sit and hatch opposed to a junior hen.
This is treat time before they head up to their coop. Even without a chick the junior hens tend to grab what they can before getting chased off by a more senior hen.
Ruffles is second in the hierarchy and has no problem calling her chick into the group to get food. A more junior hen would not get away with this.
Of course, Ruffles, being one of Cillins favorites gets the guard treatment and the chick will happily pick food out from underneath Cillin.

Tribe 2, in the distance are gradually gaining confidence after the death of Blue Spot.
They don't usually venture into Tribe 1's territory but Punch came into the house for the first time yesterday led by Bracket (Miss Neurological) who has been sleeping here while I work out how to make her safe sleeping quarters in Tribe 2's coop.

Yesterday was my brothers birthday. I'm no longer feeling guilty about not doing the 7hr trek thru the desert at 120*. I sent him some stuff I knew he'd love. He sent me some great pictures & we stayed up late texting each other quotes from the original Jaws movie. Best of all, I slept in my own bed.

Family can be a real PIA & theres a reason I live so far away from mine (for their safety & my sanity) but I do love them.

That sounds like a great way to spend b-day time with your brother Roomy :thumbsup

I am hoping to build some quail hutches/cages soon or maybe an aviary or maybe just buy some. Idk. Haven’t decided yet haha we have tons of hardware cloth but I’ve never built anything before. My dad did most of the building of the chicken coop and all the wood cutting and everything. I just sometimes (barely) helped nail or screw some stuff in haha
