BYC Café

G'morning cafe.

My daughter was hit from behind on her way to work last night. No rental car place open to get a car so I went to get her...she was clear down by the airport. At least she wasn't hurt, it was after rush hour so my trip wasn't a long one and it wasn't her fault. She'll get a rental today and her vehicle was towed to the collision center last night.

Naturally, because when it rains it pours, my husband noticed his vehicle has a leak a couple days ago and he couldn't tell where it was coming from. He knew it wasn't engine oil or coolant so we were in wait and see mode until he had more time this weekend to look at it. This morning his a/c doesn't work and he'll be outside in the heat all day. Beautiful. He needs a new compressor, that's what's leaking.
At least he can use my car to get to work until his is fixed, silver linings right?

Have a great day everyone :frow
The Wreck could have been much worse!

That will be a pricey fix to replace a compressor

Igor can do it so just parts. Don't have that price yet

I'm enjoying it but as I suspected, I miss him. His confusion seems to have really increased being placed in unfamiliar areas. He is having a really hard time talking to me on the phone and I end up talking to his daughter instead.
I'm puttering around, trying to get things done. I believe I may even hang the front windows on the coop today!!
The remaining windows still need paint and glaze on the exterior sides before they are ready but I'll certainly have them hung before it's so cold they need to be closed.

When my MIL is visiting we print out a calendar page that we keep propped up next to her bed. It has our picture on it & will say something about "Your CA vacation" with all of our names on it. It has the date that she arrived & the date that she's leaving highlighed on it. Every night when she heads in for bed I go in with her. I write down whatever we did that day (even if it was only eating a piece of pie) & then I lightly cross it off. I say, today was Thursday & we ate key lime pie. That means tomorrow is Friday...

This sounds so basic, but it has been an amazing help. No more long panic attacks when she wakes up & cant figure out where she is. No more wandering the house in the middle of the night feverishly packing for a return flight that wont happen for another week. Also, when she goes home she takes it with her & can tell people about her trip "On Thursday we ate pie. On Friday we went shopping..."

That is a great idea I will pass on to his kids. Thank you!
One thing that his daughter thought to do, which I thought was a terrific idea, was to label all the doors so he knew which was his room, the bathroom, their room, etc. She told her brother about it and he and his wife are doing the same at their house.
The daughter to son hand-off is tonight. The daughter said DH is having a great time and it sounds like he is so I am so very happy for everyone. His daughter lost a lot of time with him because of stubborness and I think she feels very bad for having lost it.

I'm sorry your DH is having a hard time. Of course you miss him, he's your other half even with his issues. Do you think he'll need to come home early?
Sounds like you're keeping busy and making progress with your free time. I know how therapeutic that is, I hope it helps!

Happy to hear your daughter is okay, IM! Bummer about your husbands car, though. Are your temps still pretty outrageous?

When I was young, my Ma would get so pissed if someone called her ma'am. Then in more recent years, she'd get even more rabid when she would get carded. She would point to her crows feet and say "THIS is my ID!" Ha, a hoot, that one. I imagine that is pretty annoying, Sour. People think they are being complimentary instead of a bit boorish.

Thanks Meg! We're headed down to the low 100s during the day. My car is fine, 2017 vehicle with less than 7k miles on it so he can drive that until his is fixed and it won't be too horrible for him. I work at home.

Thanks for this. I'm adding that little trick to my house the next time she comes. :highfive: I might add notes on the kitchen cabinets too.

I hope they're taking lots of pictures. It will help him remember that he went when he's back home.

I had to replace one in the 1980s and the parts were over $800.00. You need to use a vacuum pump so that is either rented or purchased

All of that will be done by someone, R&R of parts by Igor I'm sure.

All of these ideas are great ladies!
