BYC Café

The whole thing is weird too because even before the reduction of feed, they said they only fed them twice a day? They should have food out all the time. That’s probably part of why they quit or weren’t laying much to begin with. Granted, they probably get some food free ranging and maybe eat a little less, but still. And I don’t know why they thought reducing feed would make them start laying to begin with? And if they’re only feeding them twice a day to begin with, cutting the feed in half would mean once a day? Or way reduced amounts. Which basically is starving because only feeding twice a day is bad enough. Not to mention with 40+ birds and only feeding twice a day, I am sure they are all starving and rush the feeders and the lowest pecking order birds probably get pushed out of the way and/or aren’t getting enough feed. Which is probably how the bantams died. The bantams shouldn’t even be mixed in with the bigs. And how did they not notice the bullying? There was a line in their update that was kinda just like “the bantams must not have been getting enough food with the restricted diet and we didn’t notice whoops” that kinda pissed me off because if you’re paying attention to your flock or care about them at all, even with a large amount of birds, you should notice that stuff before they die. And 40 isn’t that big of a number to not notice. I do feel kind of bad if it truly was a kid that posted it and saw all those replies but at the same time, the parents seem just as ignorant and don’t seem too concerned about it which is a little baffling to me.
