BYC Café

Somebody has nicked one of my winter doors for one of the coops.
I even wrote Not Firewood on it.
It's got a bit nippy here. It must be around freezing now.
Got the heavy duty winter battery into the Nissan this afternoon.
Bracket, Donk and Knock have started laying eggs again. There's something not quite right about this hens stop laying at a particular light level. I think Donk is five years old now so she's hardly a pullet.
Due to Bracket's mental health issues I think she thinks it's always summer.
I bought 4 rabbit haunches from the guys down the road and I'm making a stew. I've got my biggest pot on the woodburner and every now and then I chuck a bit of something in it.
Cooking to recipes isn't my forte.
I usually find a recipe and I will use that as my starting point, but usually I never follow it

Computer is installed, and miracle of miracles I am still here. Princess started her work this morning, and I exited the house for the beagle club. I filled my bird feeder and gave Tanner his introduction to running in the snow.
You got it working then.
I've got a Sony Viao laptop here. It must be at least 16 years old.
It will crawl onto the Internet and stare rather worriedly at the electrons hurtling past. With a bit of encouragement it may even open a web page if there isn't too much crapware and adds on it.
About ten years ago I had a major hissy fit with microshite doors and moved all my computers over to Linux. The Sony laptop has a lightweight Linux OS running and I just use it as a music server for the stereo. I haven't had anything like the problems I had with microshite doors.

@Shadrach look I held my chicks differently but it had a mind of its own :lau it started walking up my arm. This is a Brahma mix, I'm definitely keeping "her" if she's a Pullet.

Didn't I mention they walk about?:p:lol:
Yup, they do that here too. I've had a chick stood on my hand just outside my house and by the time I got to the coop with her she was sitting on my shoulder.
However, the chick looks calm and generally unflustered in your pictures and that's what I'm after here. If I have to pick up a pullet in particular at late dusk and they panic it can be major finding them. If it's a chick that bolts, I have to get a rooster out of a coop and use him to entice the chick out if the chicks mum has settled with the rest of the chicks.:he

It was crazy when I was trying to get it, but it calmed right down once I got it. This chick has been the nicest one of all the ones I've hatched so far. Hopefully it's a she and I can breed her with the Jersey Giants just to see what I get.

You may not want to know this, but chicken cecal poop is corrosive.
Yeah I know it's gross but one of the chicks must have got under the cooker yesterday and I didn't look. It must have been there a while.
I'm chipping it off the floor with a blunt chisel.:lol: I'm going to have to take the cooker out tomorrow and have a proper check.
