BYC Café

I get a lot more sleep than my poor husband! As a dirt man, his job is seasonal which is why he wants to calve between January and March (at the latest...but that never happens) The kids are always over helping out with feeding, cleaning, strawing up pens. One is less than a mile from us and the other will come stay once in a while to take a load off his dad and take his turn. It's a group effort, but hubby definitely does the majority of the work! He's crazy, but he loves his girls :love

I think a person would have to love it to do what your DH (and you) do. Nice that there are kids nearby to help out!

Yes, absolutely! The guy that I took over for when he retired calved 200-250 every winter and it was only him and his brother. He had a full time job, of course, and his brothers' full time job was the cows. I have no idea how he functioned at work during those couple months. He was also on the volunteer fire department. :thHe was glad to retire and only have one full time job :p

Good morning, Cafe. I've brewed another pot of coffee. Late start for me.
Sarge is on his way to his new home and I'm so very happy for the boy. His father was giving me all kinds of attitude when I went into the run. He was flaring his hackles and pecking my boot so he got the ol' "squash and scoop". I held him while Sarge's new owner collected him.
I did not ask any money for Sarge, I just wanted him to go to a good home. But they gave me two gifts for him! A mulled cider scented candle and a lovely red rooster trivet! :love That was completely unnecessary but much appreciated.
