Bella and I had an extraordinary day.
We went to Petco this morning for her microchip. After registering we wandered around the store to wait our turn. We stopped to talk with a customer when suddenly a dog that was seeing the vet for shots started crying very loudly. Bella started yipping back to this dog and dragged me in it's direction. She clearly meant to save this dog in distress!
Later in the day, very near dusk again, I took her and Skittles to the fields for a short run. Again there was a couple with unknown dogs. This time, she did not lock up. I did a few recalls on the leash before releasing her. She did the rest of the run off leash without trying to run back to the car and she never locked up. I did a pretty far off recall with her, about 100 ft, and she immediately came to me. I made a big huge fuss over her and she was so proud of herself that she started excitedly barking and began running around playing with Skittles. She RAN! OUTSIDE! And PLAYED!! She was so happy! You couldn't blow torch the smile of my face as I watched them!
Penny, I got so incredibly lucky with this girl. She's just amazing. There isn't a mean bone in her body. She was dazzling everyone she met in Lowes and Petco.Dobie big win for all she had going against her she trusts you
All my animals have been rescues. Bella is the 6th Dobie I've rescued. She was overbred with cesarian section for each litter. Her body shows the wear. She was terrified of big outdoor spaces like the fields I've run my dogs in for decades. Scared of the woods behind my house and near the fields, wouldn't walk in tall unmowed grass, wouldn't go more that 5 feet off the deck to go potty. She's made tremendous progress. I'm super proud of her!Hmmm...still trying to get caught up with this conversation (thread), so I have missed the whole rescue story for Bella! I'm so glad she is doing so well!!! Rescues are the best dogs!!!
