I used to cut off the dew claws on baby pups. Vet taught me how to do it.
How do you do it?

I hate dew claws! It's an extra nail that you have to cut 😂 my dog can barely handle the nails she has and doing her dew claws is always fun.

I've only had a few puppies (4) that were personally mine and I never removed them.

Sharp pair of scissors, cut the dew claw off, snipping off the bone...I don't know how to describe it. You have to do it when they are very young. Some need a stitch or so.

Hi everyone. We may get our first snow of the season tomorrow.
Today I worked on cutting boards and painting them for the packing crate coop. And I cut plywood for part of the door, then painted that. It is pretty cool out there, but the sun warms you up some. Dreading the nastiness tomorrow.
You waiting on some bad weather Cap?

I think she looks like a staffie to me. Those muscles  :th

Staffies have super thick, muscular legs/build like that. Of course lots of dogs can but still. Her chest/front end look one to me too. Also very muscular and pretty wide. Not quite as wide as some but she’s a mix and also female. And the head also looks at least partly staffie/bully breed to me.

I agree the traits aren’t 100% obvious at first but look close enough and I do see it. :)

And she’s got the coloring and lean build of the Vizla.

That said, mixes are just that... mixes and the traits are not predictable or reliable to they can end up looking nothing like either parent or looking strongly like one breed they have the least percentage of, or looking like a totally different breed they’re not, etc. depending how the traits interact.

So even if she doesn’t necessarily look like a breed, she could still be it. :)

That said, what DNA test did you do? A lot of them are not reliable and have said purebreds are mixes before lol there’s only really two that are reliable and those are Embark and Wisdom Panel. Embark is pretty expensive but also tests for a bunch of genetic diseases and traits and stuff so worth it if you’re interested in that sort of thing. Wisdom Panel is fairly accurate and not too expensive. :)

Might be worth trying one of those if you are truly interested. :)

Either way, she is a beautiful dog.
That and because she is special is all that matters to me. I'm just going for another one because of all the feedback I've gotten from people who have met her in person. Nearly to a person they disagree with the Wisdom Panel. Every animal that comes to this house is a rescue. We never go looking for a breed, we just look for a need. If she is 100% Staffie I would want her. We're just having fun trying to figure it out here, and I will send in another panel, but it's all good either way. I haven't seen a lot of Vislas but she doesn't look like one to me. Oh, and they said on the Staffie side, the Staffie would have been mixed with Cocker Spaniel. :lau

No we are getting rain :tongue won't go below 42 here
Just about the same forecast here for the next few days, which is a really good thing because I have a young cockerel who might be in a coop by himself tonight. Trying to raise two teen cockerels is a challenge!!!

Every dog I know right now has or had rear dew claws except my friends two Goldens who don’t have any dew claws at all cause they were likely removed.

Libby has her front ones but her rear ones were removed. I can tell she did have them because you can see where they were removed. Franklin has both front and rear and like I mentioned earlier, one double due to being part Pyrenees.

One of the dogs I watch has both front and rear.

Gator I think had both front and rear but I don’t remember.

So out of 6 dogs, 4 have rear dew claws. Which I guess is why I thought most dogs did. But maybe our dogs are weird. :lau

I love that philosophy. :love

:lau OMG she looks nothing a spaniel LOL

Was it wisdom panel that you did or?

Sometimes Embark runs specials and sales so maybe you could wait for one and get it cheaper. Might be more accurate haha

I found Libby and Franklins Wisdom Panels to be pretty accurate or at least Libby’s lol but it did annoy me how it came back quite a large percentage of unknown!! Libby was like 25% unknown and Franks was almost 50% :th

It tells you what breed category the unknown is (herding, toy, sporting, terrier, etc. etc.) but still annoying considering you pay and it comes back unknown.

Which is why I’d like to do an Embark on them but can’t afford it for both of them or even one lol

But considering Libby is pretty accurate maybe I could just try Franklins lol
