I start trimming toenails when they are puppies and easy to handle. I am very careful about not trimming to the quick so that they become accustomed to the process. On the old dogs if I happen to hit the quick all I get is a dirty look, a yelp, and a little bit of blood.
Molly has always acted a fool with her nails, she is embarrassing 🙈 I've never hit her quik.

I worked in a grooming salon and vet office so I'm pretty good with nails, I'm very fast and accurate. But Molly doesn't care, she's rude.

Largest dog I ever groomed was a male English mastiff. Everyone else didn't want to groom him, but I loved it.

My beagle is the easiest besides the puppy. The puppy sleeps through her whole haircut and nail trimming.

I was a professional dog groomer. Mostly didn't have problems trimming nails.

I've only hit one quik when grooming and it was my dad's dog that it happened too. I never did that to customers dogs.

Only dog anyone ever complained about was that mastiff because his nails never fit in the trimmers we had so I would Dremel them all.

I saw a cool idea for doing dog nails. You get a big purse the size of the dog. Cut a hole in each corner, and insert legs. Hang bag up in the air and cut toenails easily.

I'd need a crane to lift the purse that would hold Bella.

All my dogs have been trained to let me Dremel their nails. They obviously freak out the first few times. Ben literally bucked me off the first time I did his nails. By the 4th time he was shoving Bridget out of the way so he could go first on manicure day
