Building bigger is often suggested on the welcome thread. Sadly, many do not believe the advice!
I bought a little 4 ft x 2 ft coop at first because I only had 4 chickens then I wanted more. Everything I found was too small then my husband got all this material for free so we put our heads together to build a coop.

I still have the little coop and use it for chicks until they're ready to go out with the big flock.

I know. I recommend it all the time, because of my own experience. I know that 12 will be my basic flock size from here on out, but there is always a little fluctuation. I think 8x10 will finally be the solution. And I'll keep 3 of the other coops. One sadly was a prefab I bought in a pinch for a sick bay. After two years it is falling apart, but glad I have it because it does still work and that is one of the cockerel homes at the moment. I wish I had come in here before I had chickens and learned a few things.

This is the best place to learn things!

Morning, Debby! He's doing so good. I'll have to get an updated picture to share with you. Just a little ball of fuzz :D

How are you doing? I think I asked yesterday, but at the rate this thread is moving lately I think things are getting lost in the matrix!

I'd love to see a picture of that boy! Have you decided if he's staying yet?

I'm fine, thanks for asking! Hope you're doing well too Meg :)

No, no decision made yet. I think we'll just play this one by ear. It would be nice for Chewy to have one of her own kind, for sure, but I sure wish it was a female! One thing I love about her is that her baby never gets 10' from her. All the other calves are out running amuck, bucking around and Chewy baby is always by mama. It's so darn cute. She also weens on her own accord, which includes when they are still in the mountains. They are such a different breed of cattle :)

Maybe a girl next year. Chewy is a good mama!
