BYC Café

Very cute!
I have 14+ chicks. I haven't counted them yet. It's been a very stressful hatch and a very heartbreaking one. I have 2 blind chicks from 2 different farms. One has cleft eyelids and the other has bulging eyeballs.

I've been emotionally drained. Probably most people don't get that way over chicks, but I'm an animal person so it's hard for me to turn that off.

I actually once save a chipmunk that was drowning in a puddle during a hurricane. I kept it for a few weeks until it was healthy then I released it.

FB, is getting smart, when she sees me, she comes running. Has to be first, Just in case I'm carrying treats. It's so cute!

Oh wow that’s super adorable and smart!! The other day Bunny, one of my Easter Eggers came up to me (she normally doesn’t beg) and none of the others were around or could see her so I stealthily gave her her own treat. :D I love giving individuals a special treat without telling the others. :D

Looks like HeiHei mated with my girls 😁 this is going to be one beautiful chick!

Hope everyone has a great day and thanks for the coffee

Is there something that can be done about the cleft and bulging eyes?

(Finding people that are animal lovers here on BYC does not surprise me in the least.)

I'm an animal lover too, I had a very bad hatch last year. Most of the chicks dyed only 3 survived.

There is nothing that can be done with either one of them I was getting help from Wyorp about what happened. We think it's just a genetic defect from poor nutrition or how the eggs were stored.

The only thing that can be done is I cull now or I wait to see if they thrive. So far Clops (I named one 🙈) with the cleft eye lids and blind is my most energetic chick. I want to keep her indefinitely if she continues to thrive. The bulging eye one I think may be blind in both eyes, yesterday it started panicking so I stopped examining it.

People think I'm vegan for the animals... Nope, I do it for my health.

Clops (cleft eyelids and blind in one eye) it seems like it's repairing itself, we will see. But her eyelids close fully so it's not causing issues.

Good Morning all.

I usually get on here and do a bunch of reading....which is not a bad thing, but I thought it might be nice to get to know a few folks. Thought the cafe' would be a good place to start.

Hope you all are having a wonderful morning!
Susan
Good morning, Susan. Welcome to the cafe. Always a cup of coffee and good conversation.

IM, thanks for the coffee...it was so good I drained that cup, may I have another?

Susan, hello! Pull up a chair and join us.

Meg, what an adorable puppy! What's his name?

Dobie, hope you have a good day. (You forgot the no-gnat rule :gig )
