At least one of Kerrie's eggs has pipped!!! :wee
She was particularly growly this morning when I very gently removed her from the nest. She will not get off that nest unless I force the issue. One of the blue eggs had a little pip. :love
I can hardly wait to see what she gets for chicks! (all female, of course).
She was intent on keeping the humidity up!

If you listen carefully between the racket Lucy is making in the coop, you can hear the chicks peeping as Kerrie talks to them.
Very sweet!

Internet is out here and I am tethering to my phone...I hope watching the video did not take up too much of my data! It was worth watching though

Sour and Shad, do either of you know if the brooder hen's body temp goes up during hatch?
I've noticed Kerrie panting on the nest and drinking a lot from her bottle.
So far I saw one fluffy yellow chick with some brown fuzz on it's back snoozing under her left wing.

Good morning Cafe. Thanks for the coffee Shad.
We are expecting rain again today with lots of wind. That is never a good combination.

We had a warm rainy day on Sunday and the chickens spent the entire day out in the rain rescuing worms from drowning.
A couple here have got worms coming out the other end! Hardly surprising given the amount of wet we've had. All are being wormed which is unusual for me and them. It's roundworm I've seen on poop check. Crazy really. I took four random samples to the vet at the end of January and they were all clear. Got the grass around the coops cut short now. Hopefully the sun will discourage further infestation.

Cool, I was about to ask how she was doing. I've got nobody sitting at last. Moon is still broody but she's out and about a making herself unpopular, especially with her sister Tap.
Rivit was lovely and easy. I took the eggs and wrecked her nest and she only went back to sit for an hour or so.
The three youngsters I gave to the young man up the mountain had there first day out of the run yesterday. Surprise surprise they found a tree.:p:lol:

I have the same problem up here when it's been wet. Grossly enough, if I don't get out predawn to clean the boards they will eat the worms they pass after a deworming. :sick

I read a study once that showed a temperature and humidity change during incubation.

The temperature goes down towards the end of the thatch If my memory is correct

Why is she panting?
