I have no experience with hatching but I see both sides. For Shad it is survival of the fittest and out in the wild world I am sure he is right, this one wouldn't survive. But we are dealing with captive birds which (for most people) do not have to survive totally on their own means. We make sure they have food, water and a safe place to sleep, people make little shoes to correct splay leg which couldn't happen in the wild. Most of our birds don't really have to "keep up" with the others to survive so this one does have potential to live a decent life. I have read about the "dangers" of assisting chicks that are "shrink wrapped" and blood vessels. Assisting is not a guarantee of longevity.
