BYC Café

No change in Kerrie's decision to leave the ward. But I open the door each morning and don't close them back in until evening lock up. So the flock has been coming in and stealing their food. I was hoping hunger would drive her out to the feed troughs. Nope. So I sent DH in at around 4:30 today to fill their feeder up. I watched for a while as they pigged out. Then one of the WLHs, Peanut, popped her head in the door and Kerrie launched herself at her to drive her away.
There are three major differences between Barb's brooding and Kerries and any of them or all of them may be accounting for why she won't leave.

Barb ranked around number 2 in a flock of 26 birds when she went broody. Kerrie was in the bottom half of the ranking of a now 21 bird flock.

Barb hatched out during a summer heat wave.
Kerrie hatched out during an unseasonably cold spell in spring.

Barb only had 3 chicks to watch over.
Kerrie has 8.

Barb had her kids out of the ward on day 2.
Kerrie still has them in there on day 12.

Still... frustrating. The kids are starting to chest bump each other. Everyone is feathering out madly. They are a motley crew.
They will get out eventually!

Good Morning Cafe... thanks for the coffee ... Gray day here not raining just gray
My blue cochin thinsk she wants to be broody.. BF went out opening coops she came off the nest so wiat see if she is back on it when I go in half an hour :idunno

Good afternoon, Cafe. Looks like more coffee is in order, so I made a fresh pot.

Irrigation season has been keeping me tied up for the last couple weeks. Finally getting a little bit of my paperwork caught up today. It's been pretty cold and dreary here lately, even spitting some snow on Monday.

Got an appt. with a rheumatoligist in...July. It's a couple hours away, but hopefully they can figure out how to manage it and if that's even the issue.

Love to see all of the blooms and birds and chicks! Hope you all are staying well and at least as sane as you were before :p

I'll do it on my own. If I can take down walls, rewire and replumb my house, install a mudroom addition myself with just help to lift beams into place, I'll be able to lift ceiling grids into place. Setting the tiles into the grid is cake. Getting the grid planar is the pain.
Who do you think you are, "Becky's Homestead"? :gig :lau

Hey, Ron :frow How are you doing?
I am hanging in here!

Hopefully I will be back to the office soon to work there instead of from home...during the time before the next infection wave

Aside from the buck, I am being serenaded by a persistent wood pecker who keeps hammering the metal chimneys(??) on the roof. If I bang the window he stops for awhile but don't know how many "smacks') the window can tolerate.
