BYC Café

Little brat won't let me get a photo.. Every time I go out take my phone out to take a picture she puts them in hiding :gig
Broodies are rotten that way! They make their chicks terrified of the human care taker. I've only just recently been able to convince Kerrie's chicks that I'm not out to rip them limb from limb.

Good morning, Cafe. Thanks for the coffee.
I met with even more frustration yesterday trying to contact the Work Share sector (or any other sector) of the NYS Dept of Labor. What really fried my arse was when a buddy of mine learned of my plight and started calling the number too. He got through and was sitting in my cube with me and was going to give me the phone when they finally answered or gave the option for a call back. His que position was a 54 minute wait time.
Said buddy has applied for a position with another company and is in the background check phase. He heard a call coming in and it was the new company so he had to take it and he lost the que position with the Dept of Labor.
I tried to call 20 times yesterday. If I ever hear anything other than "We're sorry, due to the extremely high call volume at this time..." I think I may faint!

Good morning cafe. Thanks for the coffee Shad.

Dl I agree. Broody’s don’t want their chicks being handled at all.
I only had a couple hens raise chicks but it was difficult to get my hen to let me touch the chicks.

I don't want to touch them until after she's done with them but by then, the damage is done!
Mistic, my one and only little grey chick and daughter of Captain, realized early on that I meant them no harm and she readily comes to me without fear.

Poor little Malcolm, who I think broke his neck flying into the run HC wall, was also a brave little guy.
Of all the chicks, MaeDay is the most terrified of me and I friggin' saved her life!! But we made progress last night to the point she was jumping up at me trying to get raisins.

She’s a cutie. Ya treats usually win them over. :lau

The wet nest, as @aart puts it, seems to be a big hit with Veronica.

She's nice and flat and she's deepened the well to fit her body nicely. She just looks more comfortable.
I'm picking up some hatching eggs for her Saturday morning. I want to bring some new genetics into the flock. And rightly or wrongly I'm going to stick some bantam eggs under her!
