Have you any experience with a situation like this where an egg was crushed the day before it was due to start hatching, the chick was still alive but not moving and there was only a tiny spot of blood on the damaged area? Any chance at all it will make it?
No, I do not....have done some incubator assists that sound about like that, some made it some did not.
Did you see any exposed yolk?
I'd leave it under her if it's still alive and the beak is free to breathe.

Did you see any exposed yolk
No. Just the tiny spot of blood. So she didn't break any major veins either.
I was watching her on the camera this morning and she looks like the chicks are starting to hatch. She's lifting herself up a little bit, readjusting, talking to them. She seems focused mostly on the area where I put the crushed egg last night. So maybe there's a chance. I've got my fingers crossed.

Now Fuji seems to be in a respiratory distress. She's had a bad heart the entire time I've had her. She's being treated for it. But this morning she started coughing and is now having some difficult breathing. She is still alert and this event may have been brought on by her laying on her back to get her belly rubbed. She has an appointment for tomorrow at 4. If she crashes and goes into true distress I'll have to take her to the ER. When it rains it pours.

Good morning, Cafe, I'm back. Lost power at 11:30 AM yesterday, but that was okay because of the generator. Lost cable at 8:30 PM. Both just kicked back on. Not understanding the lag period between the storm and power loss. Perhaps they shut us down while working on adjacent areas ? Much of NJ was still without power as of last night.
