BYC Café

Oh. I forgot to mention. I've hired a lady to stay with DH for 3 hours a day when I'm working. She has experience as a care giver for dementia patients and I got her name from a friend who's grandmother she cared for. She's great. She starts Tuesday. Her name is Nan.
Why did I decide to start? DH isn't drinking water during the day and his hand cramped up one night. I think being dehydrated would very negatively affect cognitive function.
He also ate the dogs veggies one day. 🙄Their veggies were Brussels sprout butts, cucumber, carrot and sweet potato peels chopped up and the pithy section of a zucchini cut up and everything steamed. Gag! So he's starting to concern me with his diet.
Nan will eat her lunch with DH and make sure he drinks at least 20 oz of water when she's here, help him do his chores that he wants to do, play simple card games with him, maybe watch 1/2 hour of a show (I have The Prisoner cued up for them!), take him for walks up the road, and I told her if she needed to run errands to take him with her in his truck to do so. She also asked, "what can I do for you?" 😲 Anything she does to keep the house in order by the time I get home will be great.
that sounds great Tonya! I'm so glad you found someone like that - they are worth their weight in gold.

I hope this works out well for you DL.

Good morning Cafe.
Coffee is made.
Warm but not unbearable here this morning.
Off to see Hugo the sculptor for a couple of hours later. I'm going to try to persuade him to let me take some pictures of his work.
One coop to clean out today. I'm also trying to find a decent chipper to hire to deal with all the branches too small to cut for firewood that have accumulated in large piles around the place.

I'd suggest you do what I do and burn it but over there you'd likely set Catalonia on fire.

Good morning Café. Enjoying breakfast prior to DHs clinical trial visit. It's either the last one or second to last. I find out today about him continuing on the high dose of the trial drug.

Did you find out if he was on the placebo?
Maybe I just missed it.
Best of Luck!

I've started 'training' little sister.
I haven't handled these birds at all except for a couple times off the roost rather long ago.
They are totally skittish, run up onto roost when I open the coop door.
Yesterday I put a bit of scratch on one of the roosts after rattling the scoop,
she was watching and went over to eat it when I moved away.
This morning I did the same and she came over before I moved away, scared herself. :gig

No and it's too early to get that information as today is the last day. We can find out in a few weeks.
I guess I'll put him in the higher dose of the drug. I don't think they'd be offering it if it wasn't showing a significant result. I'll be talking to the doctor before we leave.
Unfortunately I forgot to bring the empty drug packs and remaining capsules. He was supposed to be dosed here this morning. He gets a blood draw before and after the dose. I feel like a heel for forgetting it. It's literally the last data point for him in the trial.

DL, Nan sounds like just what you need, I hope she works out well for you. I think you have been very clear-eyed and level headed about your DH's condition, so please don't get me wrong, but I was a bit concerned that you and his family seemed to be seeing things differently about his need for a caregiver. I just know that a lot of families only realize that their loved one has reached the point where they aren't safe on their own after something unfortunate has happened. I'm sure it will be a huge load off your mind to know that he's not alone when you can't be there.
