DL, Nan sounds like just what you need, I hope she works out well for you. I think you have been very clear-eyed and level headed about your DH's condition, so please don't get me wrong, but I was a bit concerned that you and his family seemed to be seeing things differently about his need for a caregiver. I just know that a lot of families only realize that their loved one has reached the point where they aren't safe on their own after something unfortunate has happened. I'm sure it will be a huge load off your mind to know that he's not alone when you can't be there.
We still differ.
I think he needs some help during my absence but doesn't need to be accompanied at all times.
I'll continue to evaluate his abilities daily as I've been for years. That is why little by little I've been taking over all major aspects of running the household. He just can't do things that require much thought and foresight any longer.
When I get the first inclination of a real safety concern, he will have to have full time observation. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I'm sure you will, and I'm sorry that you will have to. Understand, this is a sensitive subject for me, too; many years ago, we "lost" my MIL for about 30 minutes at a large, open-air flea market when she just walked away from a daughter who I think had no idea that it might even happen. She just got a thought in her head and went . . . . :idunno This was early in the course of the disease, when MIL just seemed a bit vague and confused at times; I don't think my SIL had a clue that her mother might have already gotten to the point that she needed supervision, however gentle and surreptitious (at least when away from home).

My MIL has dementia. It’s been a few years & she mostly knows she has it & tries to be careful, but she’s a walker & the fear of her wandering off alone is very real. She will eat, but has no memory of doing it.

My dad also had it, but I’m not sure he really knew that he had it. He was physically incapable of wandering off, so that was never a worry. He wouldn’t eat or drink water though. It was weird to have 2ppl with the same disease, at the same time, yet such different symptoms.

There are a lot of different types of Dementia

I'd suggest you do what I do and burn it but over there you'd likely set Catalonia on fire.
That is the problem. There are piles of brush scattered all over the place. Easier to tow a chipper to the piles.

I do not understand why they bother making these announcements when they are unenforceable.

As more reliable data becomes available more people are making up their own minds about their risk level and the risk to those around them. People who were wearing masks all the time they were out are now only putting their masks on in confined spaces. Quite reasonable imo.

An interesting fact check. To avoid falling foul of the publishing misleading data the article is very careful about how it presents the evidence. But, it seems apparent that pneumonia has killed more people than Covid over the given time period.

Good evening, Cafe'. Third day of field trial is completed. 3 days of rest, and we start all over again on Fri. 93 F today, and my dogs performed well. Will won the 13" class and Cry was back high in the 15 " class - did not win as his bracemate was a monster who destroyed the run and Cry is only 16 months old and not capable of dealing with such a partner. I was proud of my dogs, and the club did a great job of hosting this event.
