And what appears to be the case with the new new strain (there have been dozens since covid19 emerged a year ago) is that it is transmitted 70% more easily. But it does not appear to be any more lethal, or resistant to the vaccine, or have any other obvious different attributes.

does that include lorry drivers, or is it just to stop the idiot tourists and people who think the rules don't apply to their family?

You've been reading that Tory propoganda again.
The vaccine may well be as safe as such things can be, but you can't compress years of trials and studies into a few months.
I can understand why it needs to be rushed through, what I object to is having a government and media treat me like I'm some halfwit.
I would much prefer an honest appraisal; something like this; we've rushed through as much of the testing as the crisis permits. We believe that the only way to save the economy is to take a risk on the possible side effects of these vaccines. We didn't manage the initial outbreak well and this has cost lives and money.

They usually take years because no-one's in a hurry, volunteers are thin on the ground, and there has to be a certain level of community infection for the volunteers to mingle in and have 'opportunity' to catch it (or not).
