BYC Café

Good day to stay inside and drink coffee, so thanks, LaFleche.

Went out to clean the coop and discovered my cockerel has some frostbite on his wattles. He does have droopy wattles, so this doesn't surprise me. None of the girls has any issues, and no problems with combs, so I'm pretty confident of adequate ventilation in the coop.

I'm watching your other thread, DL, and hoping everything works out. Poor girl, and poor you! You have enough stress right now.

I know it's a bad idea to have broken raw egg inside a bird. But if I can open the very end of that egg and drain most of it maybe she would be able to crush it and push it out. Thoughts anyone?
The skin of her vent area seems thickened and thus inelastic due to this infection that lead to all the necrotic skin and accumulated stuff almost blocking the cloaca.

Raise the waterer to a level where they don't have to bow over it and dunk their wattles while doing so.

Completely agree.
Here it is after getting the egg out.

Now what? Another egg is coming, I'm sure.
There is still some crusty tissue under her vent. If you check my ER thread, it started bleeding while she strained. If you have any advice can you please reply on that thread so it may help others in a similar situation?

How did you get the egg out? Her vent looks raw and even newly ripped.
Completely agree.

One nice discovery during my Seneca crisis: Bella really wants to be friends with her. She kept trying to kiss her. Seneca was perfectly calm whenever Bella was near.
Mogwai was a completely different story. She noticed Seneca in the crate and went into stalk mode. Seneca immediately started "concern" clucking and I yelled at Mogwai to leave her alone.
