BYC Café

I stopped at TSC and found out they DO order Blue Australorps. So the critical part of my plan, getting that particular breed, is a go! :yesss: I can brood them inside if necessary. It would be really nice if one of my girls wants to do that work for me. (Are you listening, Little, Middle, and Lark??)

So I share your kick of excitement, @aart! Yay, spring! :ya

The end of my day was better than the beginning. While picking up some groceries I got a little bouquet of roses to put in the old pewter vase I found at an antique shop for $2.

Seneca is doing good. I posted an update on her thread.
And my darling little Wren, Astrid's lone hatching chick from the egg she crushed left me her very first egg today! :love She's just a couple days shy of 5 months old.

The light deprivation bay is to buy her vent some healing time.
How would I go about lubricating her?
I'll call my vet tomorrow and explain the situation and see if they'll give me some metacam for her. Even a script for the Estriol cream.
I really don't want to have continually remove her eggs from her. I do have to work three a week. I doubt her reproductive system will take into account my schedule.
What are your thoughts on the Estriol cream to stimulate elasticity and probably lubrication in her vent?
I've never used Estriol cream so I have no opinion on it. I've used cocomut oil quite high up before on egg bound prone hens for a few days and I've assumed that because it is a "natural" product it was okay.
There may be better lubricants for this purpose and it's something I would ask the vet about if your vet is any good.
As mentioned elsewhere, and implant to prevent future eggs would seem the best overall solution in the short term, but I don't know what the long term effects may be.
MaryJanet has had implantes done on one of her hens as I believe micstrachan has. They could tell you a lot more about it if it's a possibility with your vet. Once again its not something I have any experience with.
As I'm sure you realise, eventually if implants are not an option and you find she cant pass an egg without help then you're left with a difficult decision.:hugs

Yes, I know. I'm going to try to heal her though.
