BYC Café

Good afternoon everyone!
Yes. I had called the office and asked to have a message left for the vet that last saw her for the bloodwork. He basically just let me talk myself to that conclusion and said he completely agreed. It still sucks. I hate this part of pet ownership.
Yes, it definitely is the worst part but still, we are lucky to be able to stop their suffering when all hope is gone. :hugs

We had a chilly night -22°C, warming up to -17°C during the day.

Cleaning the coops gets really laborious with all the frozen poop stuck to the coop floor.
The poopboards are covered with pond liner and easily scratched clean.

Silly chickens scratch all the deep bedding away just to poop on the bare floor :barnie

The mouse traps were un-tripped and still baited this morning. No signs of visitors. And I didn't get the stop replaced so the gap is still there. I hope that's a good sign that I do not have any real mouse problem to worry about.
But I still intend to install the additional door stop to close the gap. And setting the traps on occasion won't hurt either. Just to be sure.
Today I saw some mice and rat footprints in the snow, so the counterattack will start tonight...

Putting the bait way under the trigger works great. What are you baiting with?
I bait with walnuts, cheese, chocolate and sometimes a little boiled egg or ham.

Here it is important to change the bait and the traps or they will just send some unexperienced youngsters to die in the traps and never take the one bait again.

But you are missing out on the wonderful companionship and love bond too.
Believe me, I know all the parts of dog ownership...had dogs for 23 years.
At this time, for me, the cons outweigh the pros.
The death of dog is lower on the list, but still part of it.

I understand what you are saying. :hugsThere are times in life where the responsibility and all that goes with it would be just too much.
