BYC Café

Good afternoon everyone!

Just put out another jug of nice Arabica for us all to strengthen our nerves and warm our souls.

Here in Germany we are experiencing some exceptionally warm days with sunshine and light breeze. Just right for some gardening and work around the chicken coops and aviaries.

The flock-down is still in effect, so the poor chickens go somewhat crazy with all the sunshine and sprouting fresh grass just in front of their beaks without them being able to reach it. :hmm

With broodies in the flock I have found it surprisingly easy for the numbers to creep - or even leap - up. Nature's ruthless processes may reduce them again somewhat, but it is emotionally draining, as you say Tonya. Subtraction is hard, but really necessary sometimes. I have to stop finding excuses to keep young cockerels...

Good morning, Cafe'.
I can't fathom trying to care for 130 birds! Tomorrow I'll be down to 25 (maybe 24) from 30. I've just never had so much subtraction due to death before. It's all getting emotionally overwhelming.
DL, the past year has been a major 'S' storm for you from work to family to constructions to your animals ----------- I'm wishing a major break for you in the coming year. A little down sizing and time for Tonya seems like a good idea. :hugs

Okay.
How are the chicks? How many total hatched out of how many eggs set?
I set 19. At least 7 infertile, possibly two more. 6 live chicks and one just pipped this morning. I don't know if you do percentages by total fertile x what hatched? That would make sense, otherwise my rate is shite :hmm I will check the others and see if they quit or were infertile when it's over.
