Just a little bit of drizzle is falling right now but the tall grass of my yard is soaked and it's only 45F. It's supposed to stop raining and push 65. I hope that dries the grass out enough to get it cut.

I need an aux roost. Mine take to the boxes until they hit POL. I have to yank them out at head count every night.

Might want to make a hinged cover for your nest bank?
My aux roost is about the same height as the main, and just off the end of it.

JK. I've been thinking of a way to do that. But if I stick to my guns of "No Broody Chicks" this year, it's a moot point for the time being.
But if Astrid tips over to the dark side I may be in trouble on that resolve. I can't resist her. And she's been talking about it. I heard her ticking this morning...

Will you assist if she can't do it?

The chick was not able to pip and Dottie left the nest with her 4 chicks this afternoon, leaving the egg by itself. So the decision was made by Dottie and I am o.k. with it.

Using my incubators, I have assisted 4 of these olive eggs in previous years and was rewarded with beautiful hens. But I usually don't interfere/meddle with a broody's business.
