BYC Café

I was out harvesting and weeding in my raised vegetable garden beds this morning and I could smell something very dead and very stinky. I turned around and there was another frog draped over on the bottom hot strand of poultry netting.
Wet ground + wet frog + 10,000 volts do not make for a good ending.

As much as I've bitched about the sunchokes (that never go away),
they do provide great and much needed shade for the chicken run.
This year, in my dogless yard, between the ground hog eating tubers early this spring and the deer eating off the tops once the remainders starting getting some height, the sunchokes are much reduced.
After 2 nights of deer feasting(DAMNDEER!) I decided to rig a fence to keep them out of there.
I am not as adept at handling a 50' x 6' roll of 2x4 14ga fencing as I was even 3-4 years ago(the last time I fenced the garden), it was a struggle but I got it done.
Set it up so I can open the run door and the chooks can wander around in there.
(Yes, I will mow later).
Tail end of fence roll is long enough to wrap around the open run door,
door latch has it pinned.

Fence clips and wire tack fencing to 2 Tposts and end of run.
Should keep chickens in and deer out.

Sassafras Saplings Springing up everywhere!
Enough to season at least 20 gallons of Gumbo :gig
It will make for an aromatic mowing session.

It is pretty and green!

Here fields are brown unless they are irrigated.

Maggie is getting groomed today. Seems odd without her here. She is literally my shadow when I am home. The Princess accuses me of alienation of affection and calls her 'Daddy's Dog.'
We all know that if she were really ‘daddy’s dog’ she’d be better behaved. 😆

I’ve been calling the new adopted Boxer Bridgette because she reminds me of a cartoon troll with that name. So far she’s been Puddin’ & Honey Bear (not counting the horrible name she had when we adopted her.) Honey has been a bad choice because we all use that term of endearment for too many other things. Bridgette suits her & she responds to it, but I can’t seem to get Frankie on board with it yet.

Check out the likeness between these two beautiful Bridgettes.
