BYC Café

I through out the meal worms .. Guess I never have hand fed my big birds for the very reason I like the skin on my hands.
I'm being sarcastic! I know. You don't expect that from me. Sorry to throw a curve ball like that.
I do it to maintain trust and to get them to eat meds directly from my hand easily.
Olivia had a softie break inside her and I needed to treat her with Ca and amoxicillin. It was super easy because she was accustomed to eating from my hand. She didn't even question the tablet or capsule. Just just took them and swallowed. MUCH less stressful for the bird and keeper alike.

Raisins... They'll come in for raisins.
I've not tried raisins but BOSS is a big favorite. The 25 girls "share" a 5 oz cat food can of BOSS every morning. They'll fight each other for a seed but only a few will take them from my hand. Then there are those that are at my feet or up on the "feed room" half wall to the barn alley. They ask for a free sample before distribution. And some of them will call to me if they are in the nest box waiting on an egg. Others? I don't even try to give them any BOSS in the nest, they will bolt.
