She might be afraid of burning her fingers touching it.
Why not leave a nice big protective mitten for her to use in case she feels the need to mess with your wood stove again?

You can't. It doesn't get hot. She just couldn't figure out how to line up the handle and push it on the peg.

Do you have a back up generator?
I would be a nervous wreck living with winds like that as a regular occurrence.

We most certainly have a generator for our high winds, but many people in this area don't. Purchased it last year as we started storing a lot more in the freezer and didn't want to risk that unthawing as it can take over a week for the power to come back on sometimes.

The distressed look is very fashionable apparently
Then apparently I am not very fashionable. If I found one of those in the "distressed" condition, I'd strip it down to the bare mahogany and urethane it. If it were pine I wouldn't buy it in the first place.

I see that those, like mine, are made for people with extremely short fingers.
I can't even bend my fingers around a piece of wood. Can't they make stove gloves that have fingers that are longer than just going to the second joint??

I suspect you would be more concerned with the food thawing though "unthawing" (ie re-freezing) might cause freezer burn when the power comes back on ;)

Luckily, different people have different preferences. Otherwise this world would be a rather boring place.:p

Maybe try welder's gloves, but they are rather stiff as well because of the fire proof materials.

In Canada we typically say unthaw instead of thaw - Oxford dictionary accepts that this is a use for this word. 😉 It's from the British English.
