BYC Café

Good morning Cafe.
Coffee is made.
Out Christmas shopping with daughter last night. I'm not sure why, but shopping wearing a mask for present type things just isn't much fun.
For some strange reason it doesn't bother me when shopping for food etc.
Can't move around here for lateral flow tests. The plan is to test everyone who is coming for Christmas.
There is a horrible rumour going around that daughters husband and I are cooking the Christmas foood.
You weren't wearing your bell, Shad. I didn't hear you in the kitchen.

I was swallowed up by the Kracken! After my last posting, I took off to the stables to clean and set out the PM feed in the stall/run for my horse at 7AM, sunny and warm (+32F) I was just finishing up the run when the air shifted a bit 7:15am so I hurried to dump the wheelbarrow on the compost pile. I then was gathering and storing the equipment when the breeze sniffed by at 7:20am.
I was closing the gate 7:25am and I saw the grey wall rounding the aspens and heading towards me over the arena with its long swirling tentacles rushing at me. I had time to say,
" That is freaking cool looking!" when I was hit by a wall of wind and blinding snow and I drove home in whiteout conditions, 7:30am. IT WAS AWESOME!
Needless to say, my power and internet are now back on from today's adventures and school got canceled up here in the hills too.
Good for you having the skills and confidence to drive in those conditions. I suppose if one sees a lot of that type of weather one gets used to it to a certain degree.

You should at least have heard the tapping of my blind stick as I navigated my way from sink to counter.
Better check the coffee. That tub of DE feels just the same as the coffee jar.

Good News...power is still on.
Highest gust overnight was only 30 mph.
Supposed to blow all day.
Bad News....water heater is out.
I can fix it, if it's just a dust clogged flame arrester. :fl

It's rainy and heading into the 60s today. I could have sworn it was December. Maybe I'm in the Twilight Zone.
It is kinda creepy.

Exactly.

Took advantage of the warm weather, and momentum of fixing water heater, to make a coop fix. Glad that's done but I probably should have eaten breakfast first, now feeling puny as hell.

Feed bags put in place to keep shavings from going thru HC is falling apart after 7-8 years....big piece flapped down yesterday, was tucked back last night.

Looks like it did the trick...compare to the far right of the last pic, which wasn't covered.

Luckily had a huge piece of cardboard, that was previously used and a soffit baffle, that was the perfect size after a couple lengthwise cuts. Third iteration for this old refrigerator box, first was a brooder.
