Maggie just had a major seizure. Heard thrashing in the dining room and thought that the Princess had gotten up and that Maggie was greeting her. Instead I found her thrashing on the floor. I've had dogs with seizures before and generally can ease/talk them out of the seizure. Didn't work with her. As she was coming out she started screaming and tried to bite me. I think she thought I was causing the seizure. She was scared of me for a bit, but now is extremely clingy. I've called our vet and am waiting for a call back. This scared/scares me, and I don't scare easily when it comes to my animals.
Do you have any idea at all what may have caused this? Could she have gotten into something?
That is terribly scary. :hugs

When we went to the park on Friday they had sprayed an herbicide. We stayed away from the sprayed area and washed her when we got home. Vet got back to me. Given the 3 day time from possible exposure he doubts that was the cause. He wants Maggie to calm down before we come in. We are to be at his office around 1 PM. We called the breeder, and she says there is no problem with her dogs - that is no surprise and may very well be the truth. Vet says the positive is that seizure in a young dog is frequently a one time thing. Anyway he's going to draw blood and do a complete physical. Initially after the seizure she was slightly uncoordinated - that has gone away. This flat out sucks.

Snow, enough to make it white outside. Some cold nights and chilly days coming,
We got that starting yesterday. Thanks (I think) for your considerate sharing.

Yeah, being long retired and rather a hermit I have almost no network to tap for sales.
Do you have something like Front Porch Forum? People post that they are looking for egg customers or looking for eggs. I picked up a new customer < 1 mile down the road from me. She picks them up on the way home from work. All my other customers are 25+ miles south where we used to live. DW and I have been going past that area every Sunday on the way to visit her parents (age 89 and 97) so delivery is mostly just a few minutes off the route.

Maggie just had a major seizure.
I'm so sorry Sour :( Hopefully it is a one time thing.
:hugs for you, the Princess and especially Maggie.

Back from the vet's office - idiopathic epileptic seizure aka we don't know what the heck caused it. Blood sugar normal, heart normal, abdominal palpation normal - drew blood for analysis - should have those results tomorrow. Have a prescription for phenobarbitol - just in case this becomes a frequent occurrence. Apparently in young dogs this is frequently just a one time thing. :fl It is not something I would even consider making her endure on a routine basis. Right now she is fine/normal. I am wrecked. Who wanted this damn dog? :love
